Chapter III — Listening Room

A gallery for the audible ground.

Each recording is presented as it was captured - an 8-channel ensemble - bringing together raw slices of moments, out of chronological order, accompanied only by a note from the field. Use your headphones, turn up the volume and give each entry the time it asks for.

Drone of distant traffic, static buzz, the sense of tiny thumps and the rise and fall of static. Fog moves in and hugs the water birds in slow motion.

    Rumble

    00:00 / 1:59:57Entry 003

Surface songs filtered through sediment, audible through the contact mics; the soil beneath answers with space and crackle, all while peonies and sunflowers are watching from a distance.

    Windward

    00:00 / 33:22Entry 006

Many small bodies in slow motion, moved by the wind in a beautiful insect-a-chorus. The archive comes alive once again, in the spirit of dance, learning the night time language of fireflies.

    Soaked

    00:00 / 1:32:17Entry 007

Drenched in the wet of surrounding energy, our wings held heavy, we came down to earth for a happy-hour sip from the temporary puddles.

    Competing Frequencies

    00:00 / 1:47:52Entry 008

These days, loud things make my hair stand on end. Loud makes ferns recoil and spiral inward. There are at least two kinds of loud. One simply happens. The other uses volume to erase competing frequencies.
